Server Tutorial #7
1) What is a server? Show me a picture and a sample of a good server. Dell, Hp, etc.
A server is any combination of hardware or software designed to provide services clients
2) How many types of serves are there and what do they do?
There are 20 servers.
Server (computing), a server application, operating system, computer, or appliance
Application server, a server dedicated to running certain software applications
Communications server, carrier-grade computing platform for communications networks
Database server, see file AB2
Fax server, provides fax services for clients
File server, provides file services
Game server, a server that video game clients connect to in order to play online together
Home server, a server for the home
Print server, provides printer services
Proxy server, provides database IT server in services
Sound server, provides multimedia broadcasting / streaming.
Standalone server, an emulator for client-server (web-based) programs
Web server, a server that HTTP clients connect to in order to send commands and receive responses along with data contents
Web Feed Server, a server that distributes, manages, and tracks internal and external RSS feeds in an enterprise
Client-server, a software architecture that separates "server" functions from "client" functions
The X Server, part of the X Window System
Peer-to-peer, a network of computers running as both clients and servers
Catalog server, a central search point for information across a distributed network
o Food server, waiter or waitress
o Dining Room Server, a piece of furniture that is usually part of a dining set.
o Altar server, an acolyte who assists the clergy during services
3) Does our school have a server? Why do you think we have a server?
Our Computers have a server because every person has a diiferent profile therefore we control every ones profile by the server.
4) What is a wireless router?
A wireless router is a network device that performs the functions of a router but also includes the functions of a wireless access point.
5) What are the hardware parts of a server?
· Server operating system details · Server uptime · Server average load · Server memory current usage and total · Server CPU speed and model (supports multiple processors)
6) What type of software do they use to operate a server?
An RDBMS server
7) What are some servers on the Internet and how do they help you?
There are different servers from web servers, mail servers, to aplpicaio servers. All servers help in a different way like the web server serves static content to a web browser by loading a file from a disk and serving it across the network to a user’s web browser. The mail servers move and store mailover private networks and across the internet. The application servers occupy a large chunk of computing territorybetween database servers and the end user, and they often connect the two.
8) What is a router?
A device that forwards data packets along networks
9) What is a switch?
In networks, a device that filters and forwards packets between LAN segments.
10) What is the difference between a router and a switch?
A router is a more sophisticated network device than either a switch or a hub. Like hubs and switches, network routers are typically small, box-like pieces of equipment that multiple computers can connect to. Each features a number of "ports" the front or back that provide the connection points for these computers, a connection for electric power, and a number of LED lights to display device status. While routers, hubs and switches all share similiar physical appearance, routers differ substantially in their inner workings.
11) Does a router have to be wireless?
No it doe not it’s just a good add on.
12) What is a sonic wall and what does it do?
Sonic wall is a public company that provides Internet security solutions and appliances.
13) What is an IP Address? What would you compare it to?
IP) address is a numerical identification and logical address that is assigned to devices participating in a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol for communication between its nodes.
14) What does WiFi mean anyway?
Wi-Fi (pronounced /ˈwaɪfaɪ/) is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance for certified products based on the IEEE 802.11 standards. This certification warrants interoperability between different wireless devices.
15) Why do many people use power surges?
From preventing their computers from frying when there is a lightning storm. Aslo it controls how much electricity the computer needs.

When I woke up, and looked outside it was another rainy day. I hate rainy days because it makes me feel like I just want to stay home all day. As I got to Euphoria, Lincoln Tech was closed again so there was no way I could get in to sign in. I went through the student’s way, and signed in there like usually, I figured this is going to be my everyday routine. I walked into clinic floor, and sat at a station while Angela, the secretary told me what I’ll be doing today. I sat there for about 15 minutes, and seen all the students coming in, set up their stations, and manikins. Angela then came, and told me that she was going to put me in dispensary again. My friend Suheiny was sitting next to me, and told Angela why did I need to be in dispensary again because I was put in there two times already. Angela told her that she doesn’t have any one else who can cover it, and that I was her only choice. Angela got mad, and told Suheiny that it wasn’t any of her business what I did. I told Angela that it was okay it didn’t bother me at all to do dispensary. I didn’t get mad at Suheiny because she was just looking out for me. I then went into dispensary, and stared setting out some pedicure, and manicure stuff. Through the day I was giving students products, and making sure they signed out everything they used. After that Angela told me that I can leave dispensary, and go on clinic floor. Suheiny didn’t have any clients so I asked her if I could do her hair. She told me that I had to ask the teacher Ms. Tina to see if it was alright. Ms. Tina said it was fine so we got right into it. I started washing her hair. After I washed her hair, I started the blow dry. Her hair was really easy to do because she had smooth, straight hair so it wasn’t a struggle at all. She loved how her hair came out, and that’s the most important. After I watched one of the students do some highlights. They actually came out really good. I told the student that I was thinking of doing some highlights myself. She told me that next class for my last day that she would do some highlights on me, but that I would have to do her makeup also. I told her no problem that I’ll bring in all the products, and do her makeup. I’m really looking forward to getting my new look and also doing her makeup. I have to go on Saturday morning to make up hours. I hope we have enough time on Wednesday to do my hair, and get her makeup done also.

As I walked to the Lincoln Technical Institute their door was closed, so that meant no one had gotten there yet. I then walked through the student door, and as I tried walking through regular a new security guard was there, and she just completely stopped me. She told me that if I had a badge, or a visitors pass. I told her that the doors were closed from Lincoln Tech, and there was no way I could have gotten the visitors pass. She told me to sign in, and that she needed to check my purse. I got sort of offended because out of everyone walking in she had to check my purse thinking I probably had some weapons. I was so upset I grabbed my purse, and threw it at her. She checked it, and then told me I could now enter. It got me mad because that security guard had seen me before so she was just trying to cause me trouble. As I walked to the front office, the security Jessica told me to meanwhile stay on the clinic floor until she figures out where she’s going to put me today. The clinic floor was pretty empty, there are usually a lot of students, but today wasn’t like that. I then found out that there was a fashion show the night before in New York. A lot of students attended and they were probably exhausted because they got back really late. I was talking to some of the, and I was explaining to them my nervous breakdown I had yesterday when presenting my practice exhibition. They all gave ne really good advice. They told me that’s how they felt when they first had to practice doing hair, nails, and esthetics on real people, and actually do hair color on them, and hair cuts. When they first attended Euphoria they were use to practicing their skills on manikins so that was really nerve racking for them. It’s different when you’re practicing on a manikin rather than a real human being. If you make a mistake on the manikin it doesn’t really matter because it’s just a doll, but when it’s a person their u have to be really careful because you always want to have your customer happy. They told me that they can tell makeup is something I’m passionate about, and I shouldn’t feel nervous when talking about something I know so much about. I told them I got the chance to do a redo, and for my redo I’m gong to actually do someone’s makeup, and explain step by step what I’m applying to her, and what products I’m using. I feel like if I’m hands on during my exhibition it wouldn’t be as nerve-racking as to just standing in front of my audience, and just talking for half an hour. They really made me feel with more confidence, and useful advice. I then joined my friend Suheiny who was going to be doing a spa pedicure. I was curious to see how a pedicure was done. Suheiny first started off filing the woman’s toe nails. The rest was a little confusing. I know that they use this special minty cream that smells amazingly great, and they give a really nice massage with it. They then put warm towels on the feet this gives a nice, smooth, cool, feeling. The woman who was getting the pedicure done said it felt really relaxing. I was definitely thinking of getting a pedicure myself. After Suheiny was done with her pedicure my other friend Samantha asked me if she could paint my nails red because it’s something she’s not really good at doing, and she needs a little more practice. As the phrase goes “practice makes perfect’. Then Samantha asked me if I can flat iron her hair. It was my pleasure because I love doing any thing that has to do with making people look their best.

Today is my birthday!!!! I am officially 18 years old now. I was so excited when I got up because hello it’s the most important say of the year. Today I wasn’t that excited because I had to get up early to go into internship, but hey it’s my b-day and I cannot be depressed. On top of that it was so ugly outside, it was raining A LOT. T got to Euphoria, and signed in as usual. I went up to the front desk to ask what I’ll be assigned to do today. The secretary told me that she’s going to put me into dispensary again. Another boring day, but hey what can I do. I wasn’t alone though they assigned another student her name is Megan, and she’s really sweet. I started organizing a little, and then a lot of students came, and started me for products. I also had to set up pedicure, and manicure products, and make cups of gel. It’s not that bad, but definitely get’s boring. I also folded towels that had cam out of the laundry room. These towels are assigned to different rooms like the white towels that are stained go to the hair washer section, the peach one’s go to the nail, and spa section, and the white clean ones are for the facial, and massage rooms. Around 11am I went on my lunch break, and seen an old friend of mine. I hadn’t seen him in a long time so it was nice. I then had a couple people ask me for the color developers, and shampoos. I learned the steps of doing a facial. This was really interesting because I’ve always been curious of how to do a facial. First step is to have the bed all setup, tell the client to change into a rob, when the client lays on the bed you ask them what type of skin they have for example sensitive, perfect combination, dry, or oily. Depending on what type of skin that person has you use type of products for that skin type. After cleansing the skin with a special facial sponge, put toner, and do it for every step. Then exfoliate the skin, and take it off with a warm towel. Then add the night cream, and massage into the skin for 20 minutes. After the massage take the massage cream off with a toner, then apply the mask, and leave the mask on for 10 to 15 minutes. After remove mask with a warm towel, and apply eye cream under eye. The last and final step is the day cream, and there is a facial. Wow doesn’t that sound relaxing. I really need a facial right about now. There are a lot of steps to a facial which can get a little confusing, but after you get the drift. I and a student Joan who started helping me organize the dispensary because it was almost the end of the day, and everyone was bringing products back so it started getting a little hectic. After we organized everything, and put products where they belonged I started going around the clinic to collect the dirty towels any of the students had. After collecting all towels I started brooming the dispensary floor to make sure it looked clean, and leave the room how it was left in the morning.

Internship Hours So Far....

Today I barely made it to the bus stop. But I did make it. Then I stopped by Starbucks for a caramel frappachino coffee because I knew I would need it to keep me awake through the day. I got to internship, signed in, and went into the clinic like always. The secretary comes in, and tells me she’s going to put me doing something different today. I wasn’t upset because I like learning new things. She told me she’s going to have me in dispensary. Dispenser is basically a room with all different hair products, like for example hair colors, shampoos, pedicures, and manicure products etc. So the students basically ask me for any products they need, and I’ll go and get it for them. The students also have to sign out any products they take from the dispensary, and then I have to sign my name to assure the student took a product with my permission. It’s kind of boring because I just wait for students to come, and sit around. I just borrowed my friend Samantha’s cosmetology book, and took notes on it. The book explained the law of color. I kind of already knew it because my moms a hair stylists, and has all kinds of color charts that I would always look at when I was younger. Also when she would color my hair my mom would explain to me what she would do to my hair, like this one time when I had a lot of green pigment in my hair, to kill the green she would add some red color to kill it. Blue and green is the complimentary color of red-orange, green is the complimentary color of red, yellow, and green is the complimentary color of red-violet, yellow and orange is the complimentary color of blue-violet, yellow compliments violet, and orange compliments blue. It’s a little confusing, but I got the hang of it. The law of color is equally important in makeup design as it is in hair color design. Also to perform a professional makeup service, you will need the proper selection of products, implements and equipment. Some makeup products and what they are used for include cotton-removes product, cleanser-removes dirt, makeup, and impurities, toner-purifies and restores, moisturizer-replenishes moisture/oil; protects skin, concealer-eliminates discolorations, reduces appearance of blemishes, foundation-creates an even skin tone, and uniform surface, blush- adds color to contour, eyeliner-accentuates and defines shape of eyes, eye shadow- accentuates shape and color of eye; contours, brow pencil/powder- fills in; corrects shape of eyebrow, mascara- defines, lengthens, thickens the eyelashes, lip liner- defines natural or corrected shape of the lips, lipstick- adds color, and texture to the lips, tissue- blots the skin; removes excess product, cotton swabs; clean up; correct errors, head band- holds client’s hair out of the way during application, towel/makeup drape- protects clients clothing, palette- holds desired amount of products from container, latex sponges- apply foundations, and concealers; blending cleanup, tweezers- shape eyebrows, and remove stray hairs, brushes- apply makeup specific to needs, eyelash curler- curl and enhance lashes, mascara wands- apply mascara, lash separator- separates lashes after mascara application. Some makeup equipment include mirror- allow artist to check balance, allows client to follow application, proper lighting- allows artist to work accurately and gauge results, makeup chair- places client at proper height for makeup application/ service. I learned a lot because most of these things I didn’t really know their purpose.

Today started off a little rocky. I woke up late like around 6:45 am, and I usually wake up like at 6:00 am so I can eat breakfast take a shower, and get dressed. I also had to be at the bus stop at around 7:00 am so I would only have like 15 minutes to do everything I had to do. I was already thinking about not going, but then I knew t would have to make up those hours. I also had to call Ms. Burke, Mr. Sheppard, and Ms. Charlene. What was I going to tell them I didn’t go to internship because I didn’t have enough time to get dresses? That excuse wasn’t going to cut it. So I thought for a couple a minutes, and I remember my Suheiny, she’s a student at the school gave me her number, and told me that I was free to call her for anything, if I ever needed a ride. So I quickly called her hoping that she hadn’t left to school yet. She told me that she actually had just waked up, and would be glad to give me a ride. I then quickly ate, took a shower, got dressed, and headed out the door. As we got to the school signed in like usual. I went into the clinic. Nichole had her station set up already. The students usually have a list of things they have to complete. Some include roller sets, pink curls, finger waives etc. That list doesn’t really apply to me because I’m not a student there. So I usually still practice roller sets, or blow dries. I took the doll I was working on last week where I had blow dried her hair, and done curls with the curling iron. The curls were a little loose so I figured I would touch them up. They actually came out really good, and everyone was giving to me a lot of compliments on it. I then started looking at my friend Samantha’s cosmetology book. That book is really interesting; it has a lot of information from hair stuff, to makeup. I immediately went to the makeup section. Wow I was hooked on the book I couldn’t stop reading. I took a lot of notes that I know I would need in the long run. It talked about the different face shapes. The Oval shape face represents the ideal, so creating the illusion of an oval face when working on other face shapes ca be achieved with corrective makeup. The round face generally a fuller face, often characterized by a rounded hair line, and chin line as well. Contouring can be used to slenderize the face, adding to the vertical emphasis, and making it appear more oval. The oblong face also known as long tends to be long, and narrow; This face can be visually shortened by applying deeper tomes under the chin, and horizontally at the hair line. The pear shaped face has a narrow forhead, and a wide jaw line. Adding width to the foreheads can be achieved with highlighting. Contour to reduce the width at the bottom of the face. The square face usually characterized by a broad, straight forehead, and hairline with a broad jaw line. The effect can be very angular, and almost masculine. Contouring can be done to soften the angularity, and reduce the width. A heart shaped face characterized by a wider forehead, and a narrow jaw, or chin line width across the forehead can be minimized by contouring while the jaw line can be visually widened with highlighting. A diamond shaped face predominant width through the cheekbones is contrasted by narrow forehead, and chin/ jaw areas on the diamond shaped face. Width through the cheekbones can be minimized with contouring, and the jaw, and forehead can be made to look wider with highlighting. Learning the different shapes of faces is important because for makeup artists it is important to know what makeup should be applied to that type of face shape. The same goes’ for hair stylists they need to know what right hair cut, or hair color compliments that person’s face shape.

Today for the first time the security guard didn’t give me any trouble. She told me to just sign in and that I was all set. I was so relieved. I then came and walked straight to the clinic because I knew Ms. Charlene didn’t want me in a classroom. Last couple of days that I’ve came in I’ve been getting in trouble so I wanted to make sure I kept myself busy, and not get on Ms. Charlene’s bad side. I went into the clinic floor, and sat until all the students were in. I seen Nichole coming towards me so I already figured she was going to sit next to me. She’s always smiling, and happy and it’s just good to have positive people around like that. I grabbed a manikin, and went to wash the dolls hair. I started doing roller sets. I was getting mad because when I would always try to do rollers they always come out loose. When other students did they’d come out nice and tight. So it was obvious that I was the one doing something wrong. I called over Ms. Tina who was the teacher for the clinic that day. I don’t really like Ms. Tina because she’s always on top of everybody making sure their busy doing something, but that’s related with hair, or cosmetics. I remember last class I was filing my nails on the clinic, and she got so upset. She told me that the students are not allowed to file nails, or do anything with nails. I’ve lately been getting annoyed with her, but hey she is the teacher and says the rules. So she came over vey nicely, and demonstrated how to properly do a roller. The width of the hair piece should be the width of the roller. I never knew that so that was helpful. I started getting the hang of it, and they were coming out pretty good. I didn’t finish the whole head because I was getting tired, so I decided to do something else. I washed the dolls head again because I had used gel, and I wanted to blow dry the dolls hair. I blow dried the dolls hair, and it came out real nice. I wanted to do something different to the hair so I decided to so curls on the hair with the curling iron. The curls definitely gave the hair more volume and more umph. I didn’t know what else to do so I started writing my journal. Then Ms. Linda told Nichole that she should practice on my hair do roller sets, and blow-dry my hair. Nichole was excited to practice on me so we immediately started doing my hair. We thought about it, and if she was to do a roller set on my hair it would take waaay too long, and it was almost the end of the day. My hairs long so it would take at least an hour or more. We decided to just wash my hair, and blow-dry it. When Ms. Linda passed by she got upset because she said the whole point of Nichole doing my hair was to practice roller sets. We tried to explain to her that it would take to long, and we would never finish by the end of the day. She said it was fine, but that we should know for the next time. Nichole blow-dried my hair but it came out a little puffy. I told her if it was okay if I finish the rest. I told her to not feel offended because my hair gets frizzy quick, and in order for it to come out straight I need to pass the blower a couple times. I” was finishing my hair, and then once again Ms. Tina passed by and told me that the students are not able to do their own hair while on the clinic. I was about fed up with her. It felt like everything bothers her. I told her that I’d hurry up, and do it because I wasn’t going to leave it all frizzy. I finished my hair, and then cleaned up my station. There was like ten minutes till the end of the day so I helped Nichole clean up. Nichole did do a great job on my hair; it was just a little humid, and frizzy but no big deal. The day was fun, and I came out looking glamorous!!

Today I walked in signed in, and got my visitors pass. I went into Ms. Cindy’s room, and I was about to sit down. Ms. Cindy then told me that Ms. Charlene was saying that I’m not allowed in a classroom unless I have permission. I was a little upset because of the way Ms. Cindy came at me with an attitude. So I just brushed it off, and went to go talk to Ms. Linda about it. Ms. Linda is another teacher from the school. Ms. Charlene wasn’t in yet, so Ms. Linda called Ms. Charlene and asked her what I should do, or go. Charlene said that she would prefer me to on the clinic again so that’s what I did. I came on the floor, grabbed a manikin, and started doing a roller set. After the roller set, I started organizing my friend’s Nichols’s rollers. I then felt like doing someone’s makeup. Nichole said that she would love for me to do her makeup. I was so excited because I live, and breathe makeup. We then went to the makeup section so we could set everything up there. I decided to use my makeup because I don’t really like how the school makeup looks, and plus they don’t really have a wide variety to choose from. Nichole already had foundation, blush, and mascara on so really didn’t have to do much on her. I decided to do a Smokey eye on her using my M.A.C Electra which is a silvery frost color, it’s really pretty. Then I used my M.A.C carbon eye shadow which is basically a matt black eye shadow. I gave her a fun Smokey eye that would be wearable during the day time and during the night time also. I then added some liquid eyeliner on her lid to give her eye a more almond shape. Then I used my M.A.C myth lipstick, and make her lip look fuller I outlined her lip with M.A.C’s strip down lip liner. Those are my two most favorite lip colors because they blend, and go together very well. They make the lip look more plumper, and fuller. I added some concealer under the eye, good thing the same thing didn’t happen to me when I had done my other friends makeup where the concealer turned her under eye like a grayish color. Nichole didn’t have any dark circles so the concealer came out great on her skin. I then put some golden bronzer to her cheek bones. She has really defined cheeks bones, so the bronzer really looked great. She came out looking really great, and the best part was that she loved it. It was so funny because she kept looking at herself in the mirror, and that was definitely a sign that she loved it. When we went back to the floor everyone was looking at her makeup, and complimenting her. Everyone was saying that I really do a good job, and that I should definitely be a makeup artist. I felt really good because I love being complimented on my work.

Today was a really rainy day. When I walked into the school I got a visitors pass because I knew the security guard wouldn’t let me go into the building. Last time I stayed in a classroom with Ms. Cindy, so I figured today I’d do the same. I stayed in Ms. Cindy’s class for the half of the day, and then Chalene passed by and took me out of class. She told me that she would prefer me on the clinic where all the action happens, and everyone is doing either a person’s hair, or a nails. She told me it was so I can observe the student’s, and learn something out of it. I knew the reason she took me out of class was because I was sitting down in Ms. Cindy’s class. So I went to the clinic, and watched a couple girls do some roller sets, and blow-dries. It was getting pretty boring so I went back to Cindy’s class for the last 30 minutes of the day. When I walked In the class they were talking about facials, and makeup application, and practicing on manikin dolls. I was immediately interested because it had to do with makeup. Ms. Cindy handed out a sheet that went through the steps of how to do facials. The first step is to put cleansing cream on the face, and then wipe it off with a towel, and toner. Then put massage cream on, and do all twelve facial manipulations four times for each minip. The manipulations were shown on the handout that Ms. Cindy had given out. After het a hot towel and wipe off the massage cream. Next for the makeup application first thing is to wipe the face with a toner, and put moisturizer on. After putting on the moisturizer you then apply the foundation on. Next is the eye shadow, blush, and lipstick. I wondered what happened to the mascara?? Ms. Cindy explained that for state boards mascara is prohibited because students have a certain amount of time to finish so it’s dangerous that that you can poke someone’s eye out when trying to rush. Also in state boarding everything used has to be disposable, and always use the white cap for makeup, and the black cap for facials. They only have 15 minutes to complete the facial, and 5 minutes to complete the makeup application. That’s so crazy because when I do my makeup I at least take 30 minutes, and that’s when I’m rushing. When I actually take my time I take about an hour on my face. Yes you can call me a little exaggerating but hey I love looking goodJ. Today I definitely learned to communicate more. I should have let Ms. Chalene know that I was going to be staying in Ms. Cindy’s room. I hope they don’t think I’m their just to chill, and hang out. I really didn’t think I needed to ask for permission. Even though I was just sitting down in Ms. Cindy’s room I was really paying attention to what they were talking about.

Today morning was a little shaky. As I walked into the back door where all the students have to go through theirs always a security guard there to make sure that only the students are going in. She asked me if I had a student ID. In my mind I was like duuuh obviously not I’m not a student here. She said that I needed to get an ID in order to go in. I was mad because she already seen me three times how could she not know who I am?? So I walked to the front door, and told the reception lady what was going on, she knew who I was so she just told me not to worry about it. I was put in a class room today because Suheiry, and Samantha the girls who I’m always with are now moving to a different teacher to learn about color, and cuts. I was a little happy because I got to learn about something different now, and the teacher was Ms. Cindy. She was the one I talked to my first day there who use to be a makeup artist in New York. Now that I was going to be in her class I was probably going to be able to talk to her more about her experience as a makeup artist. When I walked into her class I spotted Suheiry and Samantha so I immediately grabbed a chair next to them. The teacher first started talking about color formulas, and how their really important to use when dealing with color. “She gave different scenarios where if she was the client, and she’d pick a student to do the color formula they would have to do for that client. Like for example she was like what if I was a lady that had 50% of grey hair, and I wanted to cover it all with color. So then the student had to figure out the formula for it. The formulas were pretty difficult; I didn’t really understand them well. Then we would het like 10 minute breaks every half an hour. She started getting into makeup and said that makeup is the same way. She said that makeup is just like hair color that it’d important to use a color chart. Like if someone has really red skin that it’s important to use warm colors on their skin, and if someone is more of a yellow skin tone then cool colors are better on their skin. I asked her about concealers because last week I was doing a couple of my friend’s makeup, and two of them had really bad dark circles under their eyes. I thought hey don’t worry with concealer that’ll fix the problem. Yea right when I went to put the concealer under their eyes it was turning a grayish color. I was thinking it was the eyeliner, or mascara that was turning it that color. So I cleaned it with a tissue, when I went to put on the concealer again the same problem came up. Ms. Cindy said that the problem was that I needed to put these special color applicators that are speacialized for that. She said that it’s like the color chart like if someone has bluish circles under their eye I would have to use the red color to put under their eye, and then their concealer on top. She said even if I don’t have those color concealers I could use color lipsticks instead because it’ll still get the job done. That’s pretty interesting and amazing to know that could fix eye circles, but not only is that for eye circles that’s for bruises, or even blemishes. I’ll definitely be using that technique when ever that problem comes up again. A student then participated to get her hair colored by a student. The girl’s hair color was like a brown, and wanted to dye it like a reddish color. Before applying the color the student applied a cream barrier to the forehead which is used to protect the skin from being stained. She then applied the color. It was already the end of the day so I didn’t get to see how the color came out, hopefully next class I’ll be able to see it!!

Today was the first day of internship for me at Euphoria in Lincoln Mall. It was so fun I absolutely love it. When I got there at 8 am sharp I asked for Charlene who is the head of the beauty school. She was so nice, and friendly. She quickly introduced me to a student her name is Samantha. Samantha started informing me a little about their school, and how it works. I asked her if they had like a particular class for makeup, or a particular class for only hair. She told me that their school includes everything. So for like for example if I wanted to go to that school I would be learning about hair, nails, skin, and makeup all at the same time. Samantha explained that it’s much better that way because you graduate with a degree in all four majors. Even though my interests is only in makeup I thought about it, and it is pretty cool. She showed me their makeup counter, and what they use on clients who go there. I found it pretty interesting that they actually get to practice their learning experience on real people. The clients still pay but it’s at a cheaper price because their students are not professionals yet. Samantha then gave me a tour of the school. They had many classes like a part that’s a salon where people can walk in and get their hair, and nails done. Then we walked into a class where a teacher was teaching hair cuts. Samantha told me that, that lady I forgot her name use to be a professional makeup artists. I immediately got excited to speak to her so I can learn a little bit of how she got to that stage, and her experience as a makeup artists. As we walked into her class she was in the middle of teaching a lesson. She was really nice though because she still took out time out of her class to actually talk to me. She told me that she started working in New York at a really famous company I forgot the name. She told me it was really fun, and she met a lot of people who she networked with, and from there started building her name. She gave me lot of good advice, and told me to just strive for whatever I want in life. It was really inspiring to hear it from someone who already went through it, and has the experience. I went back to the salon with Samantha and I was looking through a makeup text book that the students have to work out of. This text book had a lot of good information in it like it had all the types of different skin conditions, so when a client comes in with a skin condition the students can know what type of skin problem that person has, and how they should deal with it. The pictures were a little graphic for me, but the information was very useful. The book also explained the shaped of different faces like oval, round, or even diamond shaped, it was pretty funny. I never thought about the shapes of peoples faces. Samantha explained to me that a makeup lady goes once in awhile to tech makeup. I was really excited about that, and would love o learn a couple things from her. I commented about it to Charlene and she told me she will let her know to come in on a Wednesday when I’m there. I then met another student her name is Suheiry. She’s also really nice. Their classes are pretty fun because it’s working with hair on doll heads. Suheiry gave me one of her heads so I can play with the hair. Even though I love makeup, my moms a hair dresser and I like doing hair also. I washed the dolls head, and blow dried the dolls hair. Everyone said I did a good job for someone with not a lot of experience. It was funny because everyone kept asking me about my fake lashes. They all told me that they can tell I like makeup. The student’s have two twenty minute breaks, and a lunch break which is very flexible. One of the girls asked me if I wanted to do her makeup next class and I told her I’d be glad to. I can’t wait until next class it’s definitely going to be a fun class.

So I still haven’t found a site yet. It’s so frustrating because I keep hearing how other student’s already have their site, and how much they love it there. I don’t have much to talk about with them so I just wait, and hope I find something. For the first say of internship at least I got to shadow a class at the empire beauty school which was better than nothing. I keep searching on the internet, but still NOTHING!! Today I got some fascinating news from Mrs. Burke. She told me that she talked to some lady that works in our building her name is Sharon, and she has some connections with Lincoln Tech. Burke told me to talk to her immediately so that’s the first thing I did as soon as I walked into school. Sharon was really nice she told me that she’s in a beauty contest herself which was really interesting to hear. She told me that she knew a girl that works in Lincoln tech which her name is Alana. I actually met Alana one time when she came to talk to the seniors about Lincoln Tech School. I remember telling her that I’m interested in beauty and esthetics and she really recommended that school to me. I was called to go visit their school, and get a tour, but I unfortunately never went, and now I’m regretting it. So Sharon from my school was showing me some professional pictures that she had taken for her portfolio. She looked really gorgeous, and pretty. She was also in a calendar, and that was really amazing I always wished to be in a calendar, so that actually gave me some hope. She gave me the information to call the girl from Lincoln Tech who is responsible for all the pageants, and stuff. I kept on talking to Sharon, and she was telling me that the girl who manages all the pageants her name is Jesuina, and they usually always need help with makeup. It would be really exciting to do beauty pageant makeup. I always watch it on TV, and it looks so fun. A couple day’s ago Dr. D was talking to me and I was telling him that I’ve been really frustrated because I still don’t have a site. His advice was kind of scary. He told me if I ever thought about going to a funeral home, and doing dead peoples makeup up. I was kind of freaked out about it, but thinking about it might not be a bad idea, because hey I’d rather be doing that than not having an internship at all. I didn’t get to contact any funeral homes, but talking to my sister about it she told me that most likely in order to touch some ones face I would need to have a license that requires me to touch skin. I was loosing all hope, and I didn’t want to change my career plan just because I can’t find a site. This whole time I’ve been working on my portfolio, and the whole thing is only based on makeup. To say he truth I’d rather drop out than to change my topic. I can’t think of doing anything else other than makeup not nursing, or teaching nothing. Next period it’s time of truth, I have to call Jesuina and find out if I can get the internship. I’m really praying that she’ll give me something. Another concern of mine is than I hope the site isn’t to far because transportation is going to be a little problem. I’m not really paying mind to it because I’ll have to find a ride somehow. In advisory we were talking about exhibitions, and how student’s from the past did. My advisor was telling us that we really need to be prepared because a couple of student’s last year failed for anything. I even felt my hands getting sweaty because I was just thinking that that time will soon be coming for me. I’m pretty confident because I know my topic so my exhibition should just flow. I was thinking of doing a video where I was doing someone’s makeup, and explaining step by step, or if not just bring a guest, and present the makeover in front of my audience. I think doing it right then and there will interest the audience more, and engage them more to my project.

Today was the first day of internship which was really nervracking for me. I still havn’t found an official actual site, but I did get to start my internship at the Empire beauty school in front of my school. There I would get to observe, and shadow a class for a few hours. My topic is beauty/esthetics, but the class that I was shadowing was cosmetology. In the beginning when I was told that I wasn’t going to be shadowing a makeup class I was sort of upset about that. My supervisor Shera Burke was really nice, she gave me a little tour of their school which was really interesting. The school wasn’t as big as it looked from the outside, but it felt big enough. They had different floors like one for esthetics, which is mainly like facials, and spa treatment services. Then another floor was just cosmetology, focusing on only hair. Shera introduced me to a student that would be leading me to the class that I would be observing. He was very friendley, and looked more excited than me. As I entered the class room it looked just like a college class, very organized. The teacher was an old lady that was very nice. She introduced me to the class, and then gave me a seat next to the sudent that Shera introduced me to, I forgot his name. Everyone in the class had a text book that they followed along reading with the teacher. They had a big projector so the teacher can point out what she was talking about in the book. The teacher started talking about verbal, and non-verbal. Verbal means for example when a hair stylists first has a costumer, and they ask the costumer what they would like done to their hair. If the costumer is very outspoken, and gives a lot of detail, and information on how they want their hair done then that means that they are verbal which is commonsense. Non-verbal is a customer that doesn’t answer you and is undecided. They just shake their head, and don’t give you no type of information on what they want to get done on their hair. The teacher made the class really interesting because she would call on people, and ask them to make an example of verbal, and verbal. She called on one girl, and told her to do non-verbal. The teacher played the hair stylists, while the girl was playing the costumer. The teacher asked the girl “so what would you like done to your hair today”? The girl started saying that she wants her hair one color, but then she doesn’t because her friend has it that color, and that she would want some highlights, but then she’s not sure, and kept going on, and on, on what she wanted to get done. It was really funny, and engaging to watch. I was sort of nervous because I didn’t want her to choose me just because I was the new girl. But unfortunately she didn’t. She asked another girl to demonstrate an example of non-verbal. The teacher once again asked the girl “so what would you like done to your hair today”? The girl that was playing the costumer was really quiet, and only looking down. The stylists kept asking her what she wanted done to her hair but all she kept doing was nodding her head. She didn’t say one word, and that’s an example of non-verbal someone who doesn’t communicate with the stylist. After we had a lunch break, and I went to go talk to Shera just to update her on how everything was going. I told her I really enjoyed the class, but that it was just something that I wasn’t interesting in doing in the future for a career. She told me that if I wanted that I can talk to one of the teachers that teach the esthetics class. I really wanted to, to see what type of information she can give me. Shera introduced me to the lady, she was really nice, and right away started talking to me about what I was interested in doing, and giving me advice. As we talked in her office she gave me a lot of advice on what to do if I want to become a makeup artist. She told me that I should take an esthetics class because in order to become makeup artists I should know about skin. I never really thought of that so I’m really looking forward into taking a semester at the empire school, and go from there.
