Journal #9
Today I barely made it to the bus stop. But I did make it. Then I stopped by Starbucks for a caramel frappachino coffee because I knew I would need it to keep me awake through the day. I got to internship, signed in, and went into the clinic like always. The secretary comes in, and tells me she’s going to put me doing something different today. I wasn’t upset because I like learning new things. She told me she’s going to have me in dispensary. Dispenser is basically a room with all different hair products, like for example hair colors, shampoos, pedicures, and manicure products etc. So the students basically ask me for any products they need, and I’ll go and get it for them. The students also have to sign out any products they take from the dispensary, and then I have to sign my name to assure the student took a product with my permission. It’s kind of boring because I just wait for students to come, and sit around. I just borrowed my friend Samantha’s cosmetology book, and took notes on it. The book explained the law of color. I kind of already knew it because my moms a hair stylists, and has all kinds of color charts that I would always look at when I was younger. Also when she would color my hair my mom would explain to me what she would do to my hair, like this one time when I had a lot of green pigment in my hair, to kill the green she would add some red color to kill it. Blue and green is the complimentary color of red-orange, green is the complimentary color of red, yellow, and green is the complimentary color of red-violet, yellow and orange is the complimentary color of blue-violet, yellow compliments violet, and orange compliments blue. It’s a little confusing, but I got the hang of it. The law of color is equally important in makeup design as it is in hair color design. Also to perform a professional makeup service, you will need the proper selection of products, implements and equipment. Some makeup products and what they are used for include cotton-removes product, cleanser-removes dirt, makeup, and impurities, toner-purifies and restores, moisturizer-replenishes moisture/oil; protects skin, concealer-eliminates discolorations, reduces appearance of blemishes, foundation-creates an even skin tone, and uniform surface, blush- adds color to contour, eyeliner-accentuates and defines shape of eyes, eye shadow- accentuates shape and color of eye; contours, brow pencil/powder- fills in; corrects shape of eyebrow, mascara- defines, lengthens, thickens the eyelashes, lip liner- defines natural or corrected shape of the lips, lipstick- adds color, and texture to the lips, tissue- blots the skin; removes excess product, cotton swabs; clean up; correct errors, head band- holds client’s hair out of the way during application, towel/makeup drape- protects clients clothing, palette- holds desired amount of products from container, latex sponges- apply foundations, and concealers; blending cleanup, tweezers- shape eyebrows, and remove stray hairs, brushes- apply makeup specific to needs, eyelash curler- curl and enhance lashes, mascara wands- apply mascara, lash separator- separates lashes after mascara application. Some makeup equipment include mirror- allow artist to check balance, allows client to follow application, proper lighting- allows artist to work accurately and gauge results, makeup chair- places client at proper height for makeup application/ service. I learned a lot because most of these things I didn’t really know their purpose.
